Hi All,

Does anyone have any opinions regards the best roofbox for general purpose use on a galaxy? Medium - large size required and debating whether or not may carry bikes as well.

and then ... does anyone have / know of a roofbox for salel - I live in East Dorset and would collect within a reasonable distance.

Thanks

The Roofbox Co.'s website, www.roofbox.co.uk, has a lot of info about boxes.

I bought an Atera box/bars package (with a free hoist for hanging it from the shed roof, worth at least a fiver!!) from The Roofbox Co., the 450 I think. It's fine, easy to mount (oo errr) and easy to close and lock; mounting and access is easy if you stand on the sill. I think you could fit a bike or two alongside it. I hardly noticed the difference when driving with it on, the fuel consumption was much the same as usual as I kept the speed down a bit.

I'd recommend Thule bars and a Halfords ABS (the silver ones - not black) box - the larger the better as you can never have too much space - I think mine is 560 litres - I bought it last December around chistmas and the box was half price when I bought a set of bars - not bad considering the box was originally

don't do what my mate did - drove into a 2m high multi-storey with a roofbox on top of his fiat mpv. The concrete carpark was ok, the roofbox certainly wasn't. However, in the best traditions of british bodgery he has manged to fix it with car body filler and duck-tape. (Halfords roof box i think)

I jest...we bought a Paddy Hopkirk (now Mont Blanc) 480 with Paddy bars. Pretty pleased with it. Try http://www.car-van.co.uk , prices generally good and delivery rapid.

Gained a few scratches on the top when DFDS bunged us in with the cars even through we paid for an extra height vehicle. A tight fit with no real damage fortunately

I use a Thule one which is about 7ft long and 2.5 ft wide. This is more versatile than the squarer ones.

You can reach all the stuff from one side of the car and if required a bike can go next to it
